CLIQ® keeps Kiel’s infrastructure working around the clock
A public utility supplying vital services like gas, electricity, water and heating needs a locking system that customers can depend on. Add sites dispersed across a wide area, plus a constantly shifting workforce of permanent employees and contractors, each with individual access needs, and you have the ultimate security challenge. At Stadtwerke Kiel, in Germany, the solution was CLIQ®.
The CLIQ® locking system combines the best of electronic access control and mechanical security to provide optimum protection for critical infrastructure. Stadtwerke Kiel installed around 10,000 locking cylinders to secure multiple sites in and around the capital of Schleswig-Holstein. Every user carries a single programmable key that opens only the locks for which it is authorised.
The breadth of the CLIQ® cylinder range allowed Stadtwerke Kiel to add the latest secure mechatronic lock technology to doors, gates, windows, flaps, machines, postboxes and many other structures both indoors and outdoors, including in explosion-prone areas.
Each lock’s power comes from a battery inside the CLIQ® key, meaning no wiring is required—a big advantage in securing remote or outdoor openings, which typically form part of any infrastructure supply chain. No wiring also means fast, affordable installation comes as standard.
“There are no second chances when it comes to safeguarding critical infrastructure. If locks fail, businesses and householders suffer. That’s why we designed CLIQ® with a high level of security. But we also built in unrivalled flexibility that allows utilities to manage their complex network of staff and dispersed physical sites.” says Torsten Kant, technical sales manager North-East Germany at ASSA ABLOY.
CLIQ® is a high security locking system with high-end microelectronics, programmable keys and locks. The system offers a variety of combinations of mechanical and electronic systems to match different security and flexible access needs. Available on the global market place, it provides flexible access and key management solutions for all kinds of locking applications. CLIQ® Remote solution is designed for distant sites, enabling the commissioning, programming and full administration of security management centrally via web-based software.
