Cobalt Light Systems’ Insight200M Liquid Explosive Detection System has been selected for delivery to Hong Kong International Airport, one of Asia’s busiest and most prestigious airports. Hong Kong International Airport was recently named ‘Airport of the Year’ by Air Transport World.

Delivery and installation of the new Insight systems is ongoing. Cobalt is proud to have its equipment in Hong Kong. The Insight200M builds on the success of the Insight100, which has been widely deployed in Europe. The Insight200M has all of the advantages of the Insight100 with the ability to screen all container types at the lowest false alarm rate available.

Cobalt Light Systems manufactures a range of products based on Raman spectroscopy. By using novel variants of Raman Cobalt’s instruments are able to accurately analyse materials hidden inside objects or through barriers such as coloured plastics, glass, fabric and paper. Cobalt’s products are used for liquid explosive detection at airport security, by global pharmaceutical manufacturers for quality control of raw materials and tablets & capsules, and for handheld through-barrier identification of hazardous materials in Hazmat response, EOD and law enforcement.

Cobalt received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise – International Trade – in 2015, won the 2014 RAEng MacRobert Award for Innovation in Engineering and came top of the 2015 Sunday Times SME Export Track 100 – a list of the fastest growing UK small and medium enterprises.

Our headquarters are near Oxford in the UK, with all product design and manufacturing taking place onsite.
Operations began in 2008, developing instruments across a range of Raman applications for laboratory and industrial analysis. The underlying technology is exclusive to the company and was invented at the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s (STFC) Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in the UK.
